The Doubletree Hotel at Houston Airport has completed a six million dollar renovation, upgrading its guest rooms, indoor and outdoor event facilities, dining services, and recreation areas.
The hotel’s 313 rooms and suites have been redone with cool colors, textures, and dark wood furniture. The beds’ plush-top mattresses are covered with a down duvet enclosed in triple sheeting, and provided with a generous number of pillows. Bathrooms have new granite-topped vanities, framed mirrors, and a curved shower rod that gives the shower twenty percent more space.
Technical amenities include complimentary wireless high-speed internet access, cordless dual-line phones, and MP3 compatible stereo clock-radios, along with an upgraded in-room entertainment package.
A 6,875 square foot (639 square meters) ballroom is part of 18,500 square feet (1718 square meters) of meeting space that can now accommodate groups of up to five hundred people. Audiovisual technology has been added to the Kansas City Learning Center’s amphitheatre classroom, making it suitable for interactive training and seminars. The park-like outdoor courtyard has a swimming pool and whirlpool, along with a covered pavilion capable of hosting up to two hundred people.
The hotel has two restaurants. Oakley’s serves Texas specialties and provides extensive breakfast and lunch buffets. Derricks Saloon offers Tex-Mex fare, pool tables, video games and shuffleboard for evening entertainment. The coffee barista has Starbucks Coffee and morning pastries. The hotel provides room service during peak dining hours.
The Doubletree, situated outside the main entrance of the airport, is twenty miles from downtown Houston. Close to the corporate offices of Baker Hughes, Halliburton, Smith, Hydril, and Continental Airlines, it is a short drive to Minute Maid Park, Cynthia Woods Pavilion, the museum district, the theater district, Prime Outlets, Houston Speedway, and Sam Houston Race Park.
The hotel provides complimentary airport shuttle service to all terminals and offers a “stay-and-fly package” for local Houstonians that includes a one-night stay, breakfast for two and parking for either 7 or 14 days.
