Lufthansa will move its Moscow passenger and cargo operations from Sheremetyevo Airport to Domodedovo Airport at the start of the 2008 summer timetable. Star Alliance partners Swiss, Austrian Airlines, bmi, Singapore Airlines, Spanair and Thai Airways. already use the newer, more modern facility. The move will facilitate connections with Lufthansa’s partner airlines and domestic and regional carriers using Domodedovo, as well as allow for improved ground services.
Domodedovo, 37 kilometers south-east of Moscow’s center, is connected to the city by both highway and express train links. It is the largest airport in Eastern Europe and a major hub for domestic flights, as well as Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
“By shifting our operations to Domodedovo, we will once again be able to work with our partners under one roof and offer our passengers a standardized service. Lufthansa passengers will find a modern, service-oriented environment at Domodedovo,” says Lufthansa CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board Wolfgang Mayrhuber. “Furthermore, the planned extension of Domodedovo will open up new, exciting perspectives in one of the fastest-growing markets worldwide.”
