The Dominican Republic’s Ocean Bavaro Spa and Beach Resort in Punta Cana will be renamed the Barcelo Dominican Beach Resort following its purchase by Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L. The all-inclusive resort joins two other properties in the Dominican Republic owned by the company. The acquisition of the Sunscape Casa del Mar Resort, located near Casa de Campo, was recently announced. The Breezes Punta Cana Resort, Spa and Casino, now called the Barcelo Punta Cana Resort, was acquired last year.
Bruce Wardinski, Chairman & CEO of Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L., said, “Under the Barcelo brand we will enhance guest services and raise the quality of food and beverage to be comparable with Barcelo’s legendary all- inclusive programs. In addition, we are planning improvements to the physical condition of the resort, including a series of guestroom renovations.”
Barcelo Dominican Beach Resort’s is located just 12 miles from the Punta Cana International Airport along Bavaro Beach. The resort has 738 rooms, including 93 suites, 3121 square feet (290 square meters) of meeting space, and a business center offering high speed internet access. A conference concierge service and state-of-the-art facilities are provided by the convention space, Pamaluna.
Seafood, as well as Brazilian, Japanese, Mexican and Spanish cuisine are among the dining choices offered in the six gourmet restaurants, three buffets, seven cocktail lounges, and two snack bars. Nightly shows are available in the resort’s theater provide entertainment. In June of this year, a new casino was opened.
Beach sports available as part of the all-inclusive package include both windsurfing and kayaking. One of the two swimming pools has a swim-up bar, and pool-based activities are available during the day. A children’s program is also available.
Spa services are offered for an additional fee. Both European and tropical based treatments are available under a thatched roof in seven treatment rooms as well as open-air cabanas. Other spa facilities include Vichy showers, women’s and men’s saunas, a unisex steam room, and an ocean-view spa tub. Also with an ocean view, the fitness center provides cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights, all to be used in air-conditioned comfort. Services include facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy, manicures, and pedicures.
