In spring 2026, Hoshino Resorts will open OMO7 Yokohama, a full-service city hotel that reimagines the historic former Yokohama City Hall as a new hub of travel, culture, and community. Located directly in front of JR Kannai Station, the hotel will preserve the original building’s architectural legacy while offering a modern, inviting space for visitors to explore Yokohama.
OMO7 Yokohama is part of the BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai redevelopment project. This large-scale initiative, led by Mitsui Fudosan and seven other companies, focuses on blending the historic and the contemporary within a mixed-use space. Rather than replacing the former Yokohama City Hall, the development team chose to preserve and repurpose the building, which was designed in 1959 by prominent Showa-era architect Togo Murano. For over six decades, this structure played a central role in Yokohama’s municipal operations.
The new hotel concept is built around the idea of a “legacy hotel,” meaning it will retain important elements of the original structure and reinterpret them in ways that reflect both the building’s history and its new purpose.

Architectural Details That Live On
Key parts of the original City Hall will be preserved and featured in the hotel’s design. For example, a ceramic tile mural titled “Sea, Waves, Ship” by artist Shindo Tsuji will be restored and installed in the café. A signature staircase from the building’s former civic hall, including its beautifully curved handrails, will be relocated to the hotel atrium.
Other features will be reimagined to match the needs of a modern hotel. The lobby will feature specially designed lighting inspired by the assembly hall’s original fixtures, creating a welcoming glow. Guest rooms and public areas will incorporate colors and textures reminiscent of the original tiles and furniture.
A New Gateway to Explore Yokohama
The hotel’s location makes it an ideal base for discovering Yokohama’s diverse attractions. It sits between the retro charm of the Noge and Isezakicho neighborhoods and the modern waterfront area known as the Bay Area. Guests can explore long-established restaurants, bars, and markets, or enjoy sightseeing spots such as Yokohama Stadium and Yamashita Park.
To help travelers dive deeper into the city, OMO7 Yokohama will offer the Go-KINJO experience. This includes support from OMO Rangers, local staff who guide guests to neighborhood highlights, and a custom Go-KINJO Map filled with local recommendations that are not found in typical guidebooks. Inside the hotel, the public space known as OMO Base will serve as a casual gathering spot for trip planning, taking breaks, or learning more about the area.
The hotel will also include an exhibition area focused on the former City Hall and Yokohama’s architectural and civic history, allowing guests to explore how the city has evolved over time.
OMO7 is a designation within the OMO hotel brand that signifies a full-service city hotel. OMO7 Yokohama will join the ranks of existing properties in Asahikawa, Osaka, and Kochi. Like its counterparts, the Yokohama location will offer a range of amenities including a restaurant, café, library lounge, meeting rooms, a dog-friendly outdoor area, laundry facilities, and more.
Location and Access
OMO7 Yokohama will be located just a one-minute walk from both JR Kannai Station and the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line. The Nihon-odori Station on the Minatomirai Line is about seven minutes away on foot.
Reservations are scheduled to open in October 2025.
